Knowles Centre Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides a range of therapeutic, clinical, and skills-based programs for children, youth, young adults, and their families. Our programs include Healing Homes, Treatment Foster Care, SAIL, Day Treatment, Counselling, and a variety of cultural, recreational, and support services. We are located on a scenic North Kildonan campus and employ over 120 dedicated staff across multiple programs.
Over the past year, Knowles Centre has implemented significant financial and operational improvements to strengthen internal systems and long-term sustainability. We are now seeking a skilled and team-oriented Accounting Supervisor to contribute to this next phase of organizational growth.
Position Summary
The Accounting Supervisor plays a key role in the Finance & Administration team and is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, supervising finance staff, supporting payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, and assisting the Director of Finance & Administration with higher-level analysis, compliance, and organizational reporting.
This position blends hands-on accounting responsibilities with supervisory oversight. The role does not require a CPA designation; however, strong accounting experience and technical competency are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare monthly financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.
Build and/or maintain internal accounting controls and recommend process improvements.
Monitor organizational cash flow and assist with deposits, transfers, and liquidity needs.
Assist with year-end audit preparation and communicate with external auditors.
Oversee payroll processing using Payworks and support payroll accuracy and compliance.
Supervise and/or complete accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions.
Provide support and mentorship to finance staff to ensure quality and efficiency.
Work collaboratively with programs and departments to support budgeting and reporting.
Ensure compliance with financial legislation and internal policies.
Manage and maintain QuickBooks accounting environment and financial records.
Qualifications
Required:
Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-program or non-profit setting.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting cycles.
Proficiency with QuickBooks and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience with payroll processing, including the use of Payworks.
Experience supervising or supporting finance team members.
Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
Assets:
Experience working in a non-profit or social-services organization.
Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors.
Enrollment in a CPA program is an asset but not required.
