Overview
The University Medical Group (UMG) is a non-profit association of academic doctors that conduct their professional practice through the clinical departments of the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. Our GFT (geographical full-time) members are clinicians, teachers, researchers, and leaders. UMG's Business Office provides professional, independent business management services to over 600 GFT members, including: accounting, human resources, pay and benefits, administrative, liaison and advocacy, insurance programs, discount programs, etc.

Duties

• The Accounting Supervisor oversees UMG's accounting services and directly supervises three accountants that process a significant number of accounts receivables and payables, draws, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial statements.
• The position ensures all accounting processes are compliant with generally accepted accounting principles through regular employee training and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
• The position reports to the Director of Finance and provides backup coverage as needed.

Conditions of Employment

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (SIN) - only Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be considered.
• Must have a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Must have a satisfactory Credit Report.

Qualifications

Education:

• Chartered Professional Accountant designation, or actively working towards attainment and in the final stages.

Experience:

• Extensive bookkeeping and accounting experience in a variety of public and private settings, ideally with some experience in a health care environment.
• Advanced working knowledge of full-cycle accounting and generally accepted accounting principles.
• Extensive experience processing and supervising accounts receivables and payables, reconciling accounts and preparing journal entries.
• Experience training, coaching and supervising employees in a busy office that is dedicated to high-quality performance in a respectful work environment.
• Extremely self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team to meet tight, often competing deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills to utilize time, energy and resources to effectively and efficiently achieve organizational goals.
• Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy to ensure financial reports and year-end statements are complete and accurate.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to study complex issues and suggest practical solutions.
• Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to deal with difficult situations and deliver messages in a respectful, clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
• Excellent writing and editing skills to produce professional written correspondence and reports.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively as a collaborative team and respectfully maintain working relationships.
• Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel), with extensive experience using and building complex formulas in Excel.
• Experience using accounting software, preferably Sage 300 Premium ERP (Accpac).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $47.60-$55.18 per hour
