The role of the Accounting and Payroll Manager is to oversee and manage some accounting functions and all aspects of payroll processing and some human resources operations, ensuring accurate and timely compensation, compliance with labor laws and company policies, and effective support for employee relations to our Team.

Requirements:



Post-Secondary Business Administration Diploma or related program Minimum three years hands-on payroll experience in unionised environment with PCP designation; Payworks software knowledge an asset Minimum three years administrative/office management skills; strong business acumen Highly knowledgeable concerning CRA regulations, Employment Standards Code, Human Rights laws, WCB, ROEs, and other related external reporting bodies Direct working knowledge of group benefits, group RSP, and Health Spending Account Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating payroll procedures, processes, and policies to ensure consistency with collective agreements, employee handbooks, Human Resources policies, guidelines, and established precedents Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail Experience in, or exposure to a Non-Profit organization considered an asset Self-starter who takes initiative and anticipates the needs of the employees Excellent Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills an asset Accounting expertise in bank reconciliations and accounts payable processing Strong understanding of processes and systems for data entry and analysis, ability to learn and adapt to new process flows and technologies Understanding of provincial privacy laws and confidentiality Ability to multitask and make appropriate decisions under pressure while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities



Payroll Functions:

Manage entire payroll process: time sheet entry and reconciliation, balancing input to post payroll reporting, oversight of T4 and ROE production, process new hires and terminations within regulatory timelines, reconciliation of payroll GL accounts Make changes and upgrades to the payroll software as needed while adhering to CRA regulations related to taxable, insurable, and pensionable earnings and benefits Provide payroll expertise for operational and planning initiatives; lead the development and implementation of related process improvements Liaise with external regulatory bodies Prepare and disseminate annual payroll and general holiday schedules Create, update, and appropriately maintain electronic employee personnel files Manage sensitive employee information, ensuring security, integrity, and confidentiality of data, adhering to legal and ethical standards
HR Functions:

Work with Executive Director and managers to oversee recruitment process - job postings, interviews, reference checks, offer letters, and onboarding Manage all aspects of Group Benefits, RRSP Plan and Health Spending Account; enroll eligible employees, manage annual renewals, and ensure compliance Implement Human Resource and Payroll relevant internal policies and procedures policies ensuring alignment with regulatory bodies Manage onboarding, offboarding, and orientation processes of new employees; ensure the completion of appropriate onboarding forms and new hire requirements
Finance Functions:

Accounts payable payment processing (EFT using Plooto) Monthly Bank Reconciliations
Data Administration:

Responsible for the entry, administration, compilation and distribution of CAWES data on Outcome Tracker, databases, and applications. Responsible for reporting on agency, program and client statistics, trends and challenges, and reporting to management, Government of Alberta, various funders, Executive Director's Board Report and the Annual Report for the CAWES Board of Directors.
Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) working at the CAWES office. The usual office hours are 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday (8:00 am - 4:30 pm). Onsite
Physical Requirements:

This position requires spending significant periods of time working at a computer and talking on the telephone.
