Job Title: Accounting Clerk
Location: Toronto, ON
Length of Assignment: Full time, Permanent
Salary: 65,000-75,000/year

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintains all accounting and financial
records, including the general accounts, trust accounts, cash management, accounts receivable/payable, collections, corporate expenditures and summary financial statements. * Manages wire payments, EFT, bank deposits, client cheques and credit card transactions.
  • Reports on subledger and general ledger reconciliations, trust history reports and reconciliations and the investigation of variance analysis details.
  • Prepares and manages the distribution of annual reports for all trust accounts.
  • Prepares and reconciles filing of all transaction levies and submits payments to the Law Society.
  • Processes payroll and remits statutory payments.
  • Prepare financial statements for reporting on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
  • Preforms bank reconciliations monthly.
  • Provides analysis, interpretation, and projections to the Managing Partners, as required.
  • Coordinates with external accountants, including preparation of year-end financial documents and attends to all communication with accountants.
  • Manages banking relationships.
  • Performs all client billing functions and other accounts receivable functions.
  • Process hard costs disbursements, by posting them to the matter and making sure payment is arranged.
  • Pay vendor bills and manage accounts payable.
  • Perform all data entry of cash receipts and client costs in billing and accounting systems.
  • Perform all data entry of cash receipts and disbursements for the trust account in the accounting systems.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements and skills
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Finance and Accounting or a related field.
  • 1-4 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in Accounting Environment withing a law firm.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software.
  • Hands on experience with PCLaw and Quick books
  • Competency in MS Office and Database management.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable processes and vendor management.
  • Familiarity with credit card reconciliations and general accounting procedures.
  • Understanding of banking processes and cheque verification.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principals
  • Knowledge of Legal Accounting
  • Focus on accuracy.
  • Intelligent business acumen, able to understand what\xe2\x80\x99s important for our business and act accordingly.

  • Team player who is willing to support the team as needed.
  • Dedicated individual who is willing to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Experience in legal environment or professional services considered an asset.
  • Real Estate accounting experience considered an asset.
