Job Posting No. 2023-06 Position Title: Accountant Reports To: Senior Accountant About the organization and position: ActionDignity\xe2\x80\x99s mission is to collaborate with ethnocultural, racialized, and equity seeking groups to create transformational changes in communities and society. The approach is to catalyze collective impact by building the capacities of grassroots racialized community members to strengthen their communities and bring about systems change. This is achieved through a range of programs aimed to create change at multiple levels: individuals and families, communities, and policy advocacy for systems change. Currently, ActionDignity provides different programs relating to social inclusion and gender-based violence, mental health collaboration, workers\xe2\x80\x99 rights advocacy and public safety, using the intersectional lens of anti-racism. We are looking for an Accountant who will be responsible for recording and reporting financial transactions that meet the accepted accounting principles and procedures (GAAP) and governmental requirements. This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week with a benefit package. The job requires occasional flexible time commitment. Key responsibilities:

  • General accounting and bookkeeping:
  • Prepare and Process supplier invoices
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements and bank deposits
  • Process Electronic Fund Transfers (EFTs) or E-transfers for all accounts due
  • Maintain AP electronic file (EFT file and Master card expenses claim files)
  • Maintain AR electronic file (Deposit electronic file and matched agreements)
  • Compile and maintain financial files, records and source documentation
  • Comply with internal control processes and procedures
  • Payroll and benefits:
  • Monitor payroll and benefits expenses by programs
  • Process journal entries for payroll using Nethris payroll register
  • Reconcile payroll reports
  • Assist in government reporting requirements e.g. AGLC, T3010, T4A, and GST Returns
  • Assist in preparing backup reports and information as required by the auditor(s) and Funder(s).
  • Assist with vouching payment requests and community partner expense reports.
  • Maintain properly recorded and entered transactions into the computerized SAGE 50 accounting system
  • Prepare donation receipts and reconciliation of donations received
  • Provide administrative support in Finance Committee meetings, including preparing minutes of the meeting
  • Help with staff inquiries
  • Participate in staff meetings and activities as required
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Accounting /Finance with a minimum of 2-year relevant work experience
  • Efficient with and at least one-year experience in using SAGE accounting software
  • At least two years\xe2\x80\x99 experience preparing financial spreadsheets, and reports, as well as full cycle accounting
  • A demonstrated understanding of or experience in the non-profit sector is preferred
  • An understanding of internal and external audit requirements and Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • An understanding/working knowledge of CRA regulations as it impacts not-for-profit/charitable organizations
  • An understanding/working knowledge of the requirements for processing fund raising transactions and record keeping guidelines for fund raising activities
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office, specifically in Microsoft Excel
  • Self-starter and able to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff members at all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with experienced judgment and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize conflicting tasks with tight timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Open to occasional flexible work hours
