Academic Tutors
to join our team in a
part-time contract
role until
March 31, 2026
.
The ideal candidates for the
Academic Tutor
positions are passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging individuals with
strong academic backgrounds in Math, Sciences, and English
.
They are currently enrolled in or have completed a university degree, with a strong academic foundation in these subjects
. They bring experience tutoring or teaching youth (ages 12-18) and can deliver support both in-person and online. They are skilled at adapting lessons to different academic levels and learning styles, and excel at motivating students, building confidence, and fostering academic success. Tutors should be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and be committed to creating an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment. Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
These roles support TNO's mission of community development and youth empowerment by promoting equitable access to educational opportunities for newcomer and diverse communities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging tutoring sessions in Math, Sciences, and English.
Assess students' academic needs and create tailored learning plans.
Provide homework help, test preparation, and skill-building exercises.
Track and evaluate student progress, adjusting instruction as necessary.
Create a safe and supportive learning environment for youth aged 12-18.
Maintain open communication with students and, when appropriate, with parents/guardians regarding progress and challenges.
Provide resources, study strategies, and referrals to additional academic support where needed.
Maintain accurate attendance, lesson, and progress records.
Submit required weekly and monthly reports to the Program Manager.
Ensure all data and student records remain confidential and secure.
Support programs, promotion and outreach in schools and community spaces.
Collaborate with TNO staff and community partners to support youth success.
Participate in local community events and educational initiatives
Screening
- As a condition of employment, the successful applicant must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Job Type:
2 Part-Time contract positions until
March 31, 2026

Work Location(s):
TNO service locations, local schools, libraries, and/or virtual platforms as needed.
Schedule:
6 hours per week, and flexible between 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM based on programming needs. Some evenings and weekends will be required.
Breaks and Holidays:
Please note the following key dates based on the holiday calendar for Middle and High School students in Ontario--the age group the hired Tutors will be supporting:
Thanksgiving Day
Winter Break
Family Day
March Break
Tutoring will not take place on these holidays, with the exception of March Break, during which sessions may be scheduled depending on student needs. No tutoring will occur on other statutory holidays not listed above.
