Academic Transition Programs Advisor

to play a pivotal role in shaping the success and retention of our students.



As an Academic Transition Programs Advisor, you will be a key contributor to our University's strategic enrollment management initiative. Your primary focus will be on developing, overseeing, and delivering programs tailored to the success and retention of new and continuing undergraduate students experiencing academic difficulties or personal challenges.



What You'll Do:


Implement and Deliver:

Facilitate the Academic Recovery Program and Arts Transition Program for academically at-risk students.

Individual and Group Advising:

Conduct personalized and group advising sessions, identifying reasons for academic challenges, and devising strategies to enhance students' skills and motivation.

Progress Monitoring:

Track and monitor students' progress in the programs, ensuring timely intervention and support.

Facilitation:

Lead weekly sessions and other program components, fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Communication Strategy:

Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to promote the programs and engage students effectively.

Team Leadership:

Recruit, train, and supervise student teaching assistants, ensuring a cohesive and efficient team.

Records Management:

Oversee records management, appointment scheduling, database updates, and outreach to potential students.

Collaboration:

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with University staff, contributing to a unified and student-centric approach.

Program Development:

Collaborate on developing and delivering new programming, tailoring solutions to specific student needs.

Design and Delivery:

Design course material and presentations, and contribute to program promotion, curriculum review, and evaluation.

Position Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Position:

Undergraduate degree; Two years experience advising undergraduate students facing academic difficulties or personal challenges, or working with adult learners in a classroom setting. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.





Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role:


Intercultural sensitivities and awareness of issues facing undergraduate students from a variety of backgrounds, including, but not limited to, Indigenous, international, and mature students; Knowledge of the University of Regina programs, policies and available supports; Knowledge of enrolment management and best practices for retention; Working knowledge of adult learning and student retention theories; Demonstrated teaching and classroom management skills; Demonstrated program planning and implementation skills; Demonstrated advising skills; Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint); Demonstrated experience working in complex databases such as Banner and Caspur; Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to exercise discretion regarding sensitive and confidential matters and
materials;
Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills; Strong business writing skills; Demonstrated flexibility - this includes the ability to transition from task to task effectively and adapt to individual student needs; and Experience working with ESL and/or international undergraduate students would be an asset.
Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $66,740.00 - $ 90,060.00 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours
8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, on campus.



Work hours are dependent on program offerings. Saturday and evening availability may be required on a regular basis.
