DescriptionThe University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Academic Tenure Track Position in Interventional Cardiology to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world\xe2\x80\x99s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s premier health-education institutions.The University of Alberta\'s Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. The University of Alberta and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute are home to some of the premier programs in the country, including Cardiac Critical Care, Acute Coronary Syndrome, Pulmonary Hypertension, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Heart Failure and Advanced Heart Failure, with the advanced Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) caring for the full spectrum of critically ill cardiac patients including advanced ventilatory support, renal replacement therapy, hemodynamic monitoring, transcatheter mechanical support capabilities and overflow post Cardiac Surgery patients. In addition, we host one of the largest Mechanical Assist Program and Heart Transplant programs in Canada. The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute has a unique infrastructure, providing both Pediatric and Adult Cardiac Care.The successful recruit will join a group of 36 cardiologists including 7 other Interventional Cardiologists and will have the opportunity to grow and develop in an academic cardiac catheterization laboratory performing diagnostic hemodynamic assessments and percutaneous coronary intervention procedures. We perform over 1500 percutaneous coronary interventions annually and support complex invasive hemodynamic assessments in advanced heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. We encourage participation in clinical trials and support investigator-initiated scholarly activity. We provide expertise in complex and high-risk coronary intervention (CHIP) and chronic total occlusion (CTO) intervention and offer transcatheter mechanical support for advanced heart failure and high-risk PCI. We have a wide array of state-of-the-art intracoronary imaging, physiology and plaque modification tools readily available to support optimal PCI. Our Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Area of Focused Competence (AFC) Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program was the first in Canada and is a model of formative education and mentorship. We endorse a progressive academic-based philosophy of care with shared decision making and collaborative multidisciplinary support.The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. They will be eligible for certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, they will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have Specialty training in Interventional Cardiology in either an accredited or non-accredited fellowship program. Candidates should be committed to education and have additional professional training or previous work experience in research.Key accountabilities of the Interventional Cardiologist will include but will not be limited to: Adult Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology Laboratory, In-Patient Cardiology service, Outpatient General Clinic, Emergency Triage, and equitable share of Division of Cardiology undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities.The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP).
