Media and Technology Studies at the University of Alberta invites applications for up to three term Lecturers in Media Studies.

These positions are a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

These part-time positions are for the 4 month Fall semester: Sept - December 2023.

Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the .

Location

Work primarily takes place in-person at North Campus, Edmonton.

Working for the Department/Faculty

at the University of Alberta has offered a degree program in Media Studies at the undergraduate level since 2019. Our faculty are actively involved in a wide range of media research with a strong focus on media history, media archaeology, media theory, media cultures, media industries, and media spectatorship. Established in 1908 as a board-governed, public institution, the University of Alberta has earned the reputation of being one of the best universities in Canada based on our strengths in teaching, research, and service. Position Summary

Media and Technology Studies at the University of Alberta invites applications for up to three term Lecturers in Media Studies for the following courses. Applicants may choose to apply to teach one or more of these courses scheduled for the Fall 2023 term (September to December)

Duties

Currently, courses for which the Contract Lecturers may be required to teach include:

  • MST 200 Media Theory (Tues/Thurs 09:30-10:50) A genealogy of advanced Media Studies theories and approaches in their historical contexts.
  • MST 210 Contemporary Media Culture (Mon/Wed/Fri 11:00-11:50) Key topical and changing trends and issues in contemporary media culture.
  • MST 310 Political Economy of Media (Tues/Thurs 15:30-16:50) Theoretical and cultural issues surrounding the political-economic structures, institutions, and power relations of media.
Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. or be all but dissertation (ABD).
