The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation's Learning Cafe is seeking an energetic individual with a strong background in math, science, and adult learning strategies to join its Academic Strategist team. Reporting to the Integrated Supports Coordinator, this role contributes to a holistic learning support network within the CTLI and other student-centered support services by supporting students with the development of foundational academic strategies and supporting faculty through the creation and delivery of learning resources and activities.
Academic Strategists play an integral role at Lethbridge Polytechnic by collaborating with faculty and staff to help diverse learners achieve academic, personal, and professional success.

Embedding into courses as an Integrated Academic Strategist to deliver workshops, presentations, resource access pathways, and information to students.
Recording interactions and tracking data according to policies and best practices established at the institutional, centre, and team levels.
Collaborating with Student Affairs, faculty, and other CTLI teams to develop projects, resources, initiatives, and events to ensure Lethbridge Polytechnic's student supports remain accessible, effective, and relevant.
Excelling in self-directed situations and having the creative confidence to forge new solutions to systems challenges are keys to succeeding in this position. This role also requires strong time management, decision-making, interpersonal, intercultural, and relationship-building skills and the use of flexible approaches to adapt to our students' needs.

Direct Student Support
Providing direct face-to-face learning appointments (online or in person) that focus on reinforcing and clarifying foundational academic skills and course-specific math and science competency. As appropriate, this position may also support students with basic APA, writing, research, resiliency and technology skills. Specific activities may include:
+ coaching on effective academic learning strategies and study practices;
+ reinforcing and clarifying foundational academic skills or content in science and math;
+ coaching students on effective and responsible use of learning technology, generative AI tools;
+ working with at-risk students or students facing academic, learning, social, language, and culture barriers or inequities;
+ supporting students with institutional system navigation, including referrals to internal student supports and external community supports;
+ supporting student development of complex skills, such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem solving, and encouraging Student Core Competency pathways and badging; Contributing to open educational resource development that adheres to internal and external UDL, accessibility, style, and branding guidelines.
Aligning support practices and resources with relevant policies and best practices, especially related to academic integrity and responsible use of generative AI tools.
Maintaining detailed data tracking of all academic student supports.
Integrated Academic Strategist
Collaborating with instructors to provide in-course resources and pathways for students to access supports. This may include in-class workshops, posting digital resources, or scheduled announcements relating to foundational math, science, and academic knowledge and skills.
Maintaining asynchronous interactions through Canvas and email correspondence (e.g., providing feedback to a student's draft of a field report or directing a student to relevant math practice questions).
Maintaining detailed data tracking of all integrated support interactions with students and instructors.
Collaborative projects and activities
Contribute to and/or lead collaborative projects and activities with other Lethbridge Polytechnic areas (e.g., International Student Services, Indigenous Student Services, Lethbridge Polytechnic Students Association, Kodiaks Athletics, Student Affairs, Academic Advising, other CTLI teams, etc.) as well as external community partners.
Organizing and completing miscellaneous duties to support departmental operations, activities, and initiatives; and/or actively developing and sharing expertise through professional development activities and participation in meetings and committees as required.
Mentorship and training
Collaborates with CTLI team members to mentor, lead, and train peer supports and student employees at Lethbridge Polytechnic.
Shared leadership
Participate in a model of shared leadership to build institutional memory and create co-ownership over aspirational goals and strategies.
Indigenization and decolonization
Work independently and collaboratively to support Lethbridge Polytechnic's Niitsitapi Strategy to help decolonize institutional and team practices, integrate Indigenous Ways of Knowing into learning experiences, and improve belonging within our communities.
NOTE: Academic strategists are required to be on-campus, remote work is not an option. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required.
Required Qualifications
An undergraduate degree in Education and/or a discipline related to a specific skill/content area (e.g., math, chemistry, physics, and biology).
Ability to support students facing exceptional institutional or social barriers, including students with unique learning challenges or disabilities.
Experience developing and delivering educational and interactive presentations, workshops, and events to small and large groups.
Strong organizational and self-management skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and attend to detail.
Demonstrated aptitude for researching and incorporating emerging learning technologies in support of student strategy development.
Superb listening, probing and analytical skills, combined with the knowledge and experience necessary to determine appropriate strategies and relevant learning technologies.
Effective interpersonal, inter-cultural, organizational, and technical skills in order to communicate with a diverse student population and dynamic staff and faculty teams.
Ability to shift easily between two or more activities or sources of information; able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Evidence of professional development throughout career.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching or working with adult learners from a variety of backgrounds is an asset.
Ability to provide writing, research and APA support in addition to core support in science and math subject areas.
Knowledge of effective academic strategies and their application in a post-secondary setting is preferred. Familiarity with tools and strategies that support learners facing specific educational marginalization and barriers is an asset.
Experience using learning management and content creation platforms and tools is an asset.
Educational background or work experience that relates to one or more Lethbridge Polytechnic programs.
Experiments with new approaches, leverages setbacks, and makes realistic assessments of risks and next steps.
Approaches new tasks with a growth mindset and a willingness to learn from others.
Demonstrated initiative to maintain awareness of current and emerging trends in post-secondary-level learning and to incorporate them into their work.
Demonstrated time management, communication (oral and written), and project management skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Experience and/or education on the topic of competency-based education and assessment is an asset.
