Position Description

The Department of Family Medicine ( ), in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, invites applications for an Academic Family Physician - Clinician Educator, Contingent Term appointment at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level.

Qualifications required include a MD, certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada, eligibility for licensure through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, and eligibility for privileges with Alberta Health Services. Applicants must present evidence of leadership experience in the areas of medical education, evidence of successful teaching in family medicine, and productivity in research and/or scholarship. Research interests must align with at least one of the Department of Family Medicine\'s research pillars: Indigenous Health, health services, health equity, and medical education. The successful candidate will be expected take on a significant leadership role in medical education in the Department of Family Medicine, and will participate in teaching in the undergraduate medical education (UME) and postgraduate medical education (PGME) clinical and academic programs. Contribution to research and scholarship will be expected. The successful candidate will also provide clinical care in family medicine in the Department of Family Medicine\'s academic teaching clinics. Clinical work in the academic teaching clinics will include teaching and supervision of UME students and residents in the family medicine residency program.

Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should demonstrate a record of peer reviewed publications and peer-reviewed funding relevant to family medicine and/or medical education at the local and, preferably, national level. In terms of education and teaching, applicants at the Assistant Professor level must show evidence of successful teaching activity and supervision and/or mentorship of trainees at the UME and/or PGME level. Applicants must also demonstrate evidence of educational leadership that advances teaching and learning.

Applicants at the Associate Professor level must present evidence of an externally funded research program and an impactful publication record as evidenced by publication in journals relevant to family medicine and/or medical education, including as senior or first author. Applicants must show evidence of successful teaching and supervision at the UME and PGME level, and/or graduate supervision. Applicants must also demonstrate evidence of expertise in educational leadership that advances innovation of teaching and learning, with impact beyond the classroom.
