Academic Associate

GBA1-Canada Scientific Assistant Manager



Context: G-Can (GBA1-Canada) is an open-science, pre-competitive platform aiming to advance research around the GBA1 gene in neurodegenerative disorders and dementia. This platform will generate basic research models (cell lines, animals, computational) and tools (reagents, antibodies etc.), collect samples and data (genetic, transcriptomic, clinical, imaging etc.) and will share them through open-science platform established at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital).

The Academic Associate (Scientific Assistant Manager) will work in support of research within the G-Can platform, its members and collaborators. Within this role, the Academic Associate (Scientific Assistant Manager Scientific Assistant Manager) will be responsible for overseeing and developing the research activities within G-Can, write grants, write scientific reports, presentations and papers, work with principle investigators on advancing their research projects within G-Can, coordinate the activities of the scientific advisory board, and all other research related activities.

  • Lead and coordinate the scientific tasks and research activities within G-Can.
  • Work with the G-Can manager on research related budgets, including development of research budget and drafting research proposals.
  • Organize scientific meetings, seminars, and symposia, if needed with coordination with The Neuro\xe2\x80\x99s event team.
  • Communicate with the different principle investigator to provide support for the research projects within the platform.
  • Develop and draft research proposals, including budgets, milestones and project plans alongside the manager of G-Can.
  • Develop and draft the scientific components of protocols and different documents needed for ethics approval of projects within G-Can.
  • Monitor the funds of G-Can research projects and ensure their deadlines and progress reports are met.
  • Work in collaboration with other units within The Neuro to coordinate and perform different research projects within G-Can.
  • Communicate with the co-PIs and scientific advisory board and steering committee to develop new research directions for G-Can.
  • Prepare presentations for scientific sessions, annual/report meetings and other presentations about the research activity of the platform.
  • Maintain database on research funds, research resources, cohorts, tools, reagents and models.
  • Work with The Neuro\xe2\x80\x99s platforms such as C-BIGR (Clinical, Biological, Imaging and Genetics Repository), EDDU (Early Drug Discovery Unit) and Neurohub to advance research projects, share data, tools and models.
  • Work on developing research project with pharmaceutical companies within G-Can
  • Undertake special projects as needed.
This position is a contract position for one (1) year, with possibility of renewal. The salary will commensurate with experience.

Education/Experience

Minimum qualifications: PhD degree in fields relevant for Parkinson\xe2\x80\x99s disease with 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a research lab.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.
