The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Regina seeks a dynamic individual to become a crucial part of our team in Regina. Join us as our next Academic Advisor/Indigenous Support Coordinator!The Faculty of Nursing, in partnership with Saskatchewan Polytechnic, currently offers two undergraduate programs - the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) (including a Bilingual Option and the LP to BScN Pathway) and the After Degree Nursing Program (ADNP), with a total intake of approximately 455 students each fall. The SCBScN program is currently offered in Regina and Saskatoon.As one of the Academic Advisors, you will be at the heart of our nursing programs\' success. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) students in being successful in their program and guiding them through important academic decisions. You will also contribute to recruitment efforts by attending recruitment events both inside and outside of Saskatchewan.As the Indigenous Support Coordinator, you will be crucial in supporting our applying, new, and current Indigenous students. You will build connections with First Nation communities within Saskatchewan. You will build strong connections with Indigenous nursing students to ensure they have access to any support they may need throughout their program. You will be responsible for maintaining statistics and reports related to our Indigenous nursing students.What You Will Do:

  • Support Indigenous applicants and current Indigenous nursing students: The Faculty of Nursing designates 17% of their seats for Indigenous students. You will organize and participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives, including but not limited to promoting the SCBScN programs to First Nations communities within Saskatchewan. Work collaboratively with Indigenous support personnel at Sask Polytech\'s Regina and Saskatoon campuses to develop and deliver support programs for Indigenous students to increase student retention and success. You will provide monthly updates on current Indigenous student enrollment, retention, and activities. You will coordinate new student orientation for Indigenous students.in person to both large and small groups.   • Support SCBScN and After Degree Nursing students successfully navigate their program: You will support students by problem-solving registration, scheduling and/or program issues. Assist students on probation and at-risk with academic recovery planning. Advise students of university processes and policies (e.g., deferrals, withdrawal dates, and medical/compassionate withdrawals). Assess and apply transfer credit for eligible students. Act as a liaison with Nursing Student Societies. Coordinate with Sask Polytech nursing advisors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of program information to all students. Arrange and facilitate support from other departments within the institution, such as the Student Success Centre, Counseling Services, ta-taw\xc3\xa2w Student Centre, and access to cultural activities and Elders, for Indigenous nursing students
  • Contribute to recruiting new nursing students: Attend recruitment fairs and University of Regina events to promote nursing programs. Facilitate and deliver recruitment presentations virtually and on-site. Travel throughout Saskatchewan and other provinces will be required for recruitment purposes. Provide prospective applicants with accurate admission information.
  • Organize and facilitate program information sessions: Develop and facilitate group presentations on program requirements and university life for prospective and current students. Facilitate presentations online and in-person to both large and small groups. Presentations will occur at recruitment events, new student group advising, new student orientations, and other program sessions that occur throughout the year.
  • Contribute to policy and procedural updates and support others in following those policies and procedures: Support sessional lecturers, faculty members, and Saskatchewan Polytech faculty by advising them of appropriate U of R and SCBScN policies and processes. Assist with Undergraduate Calendar updates. Recommend changes in processes to improve workflow and service to students.

Position RequirementsWhat You Will Bring to the Position:
  • Undergraduate degree.
  • A minimum of three years of experience directly related to the required duties.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid class 5 driver\'s license.
  • Travel throughout Saskatchewan and Canada will be required.
Skills to Ensure You are Successful in the Role:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in programming and/or academic advising.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Indigenous people and communities; must have knowledge of Indigenous protocols to complement recruitment and advising initiatives.
  • Demonstrated program development/delivery and facilitation/presentation experience.
  • Records management experience.
  • Accuracy in creating, composing, and editing various written and electronic materials.
  • Demonstrated skill in learning and experience applying various policies, procedures, and processes. Preference is given to candidates with experience with the University of Regina programs, policies, and processes, including registration (URSS), convocation, academic action, transfer credit, grade changes, deferrals, withdrawals, academic misconduct, and academic appeals.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated skill in learning and operating various complex databases and information systems. Preference is given to candidates with demonstrated experience in University of Regina information systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office practices, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including a proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, prioritize work and accomplish tasks correctly and on time with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate methods to handle confidential material.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to develop and maintain effective collegial working relationships with a diverse clientele, and specifically the Indigenous demographic.
Physical Demands
  • Extended periods of sitting at a computer daily.
  • Standing, walking, or temporarily relocating from the assigned office to the front desk will be required to accommodate vacation coverage.
  • Lifting promotional materials, moving tables, and setting up displays.

Salary Range $64,796 - $87,436 Annually
Status Permanent
Work Hours8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Monday to Friday
Some evenings and weekends. Some travel is required.
