The Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society has over 60 years of experience in providing culturally enhanced programs and services to urban Indigenous peoples in Vancouver. As our Aboriginal Employment Specialist and Job Coach, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting Aboriginal clients through every stage of their employment journey, from initial career exploration to long-term job retention. You will work both individually and with groups, providing expert career coaching, job search strategies, and essential on-the-job support to ensure their success in securing and maintaining meaningful employment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized career counseling and guidance to clients, helping them identify their skills, interests, and career goals.
Develop and implement engaging and effective job readiness training programs tailored to the needs of Aboriginal job seekers.
Skillfully assist clients with crafting professional resumes and cover letters, preparing for successful job interviews, and navigating the job application process.
Offer dedicated on-the-job coaching and support to newly placed clients, facilitating a smooth transition into the workplace and promoting long-term job retention.
Proactively collaborate with employers to identify current and future job opportunities that align with clients' skills and career goals, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships.
Closely monitor clients' progress, providing ongoing encouragement, support, and follow-up to address any challenges and celebrate successes.
Work collaboratively with clients in one-on-one settings and in group sessions to facilitate the achievement of their specific employment and career development goals.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Coaching, Counselling, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience providing employment services, career counseling, or job coaching to individuals facing employment barriers.
Exceptional communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients and employers.
Proven ability to work independently, effectively manage a diverse caseload, and prioritize tasks to meet client needs.
Other Requirements
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and clean abstract.
Vancouver Police Department Vulnerable Sector Check.

Term: 7 Month Term Position; with the possibility of extension
