Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.The OpportunityVale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.We are currently seeking an Aboriginal Affairs Student to join our Aboriginal Affairs department supporting our remote mine site in Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This is a 4-month fixed term position on a Monday to Friday schedule working primarily from a home office location with occasional visits to the mine site. This position may also involve travel throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, especially the Impacts and Benefits Agreement (IBA) communities in Labrador.In this position, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives through the Aboriginal Affairs Department and helping to support the operations in Newfoundland and Labrador. You will also assist with activities to increase and protect the reputation of Vale\xe2\x80\x99s operations in Newfoundland and Labrador. In this role, you will support the department with keeping employees informed and engaged about key strategic priorities of the business. You will also help provide effective guidance and engagement that is targeted towards various stakeholders, internal and external. Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Assist with drafting, proofreading, and editing of internal departmental communications to support various deliverables relevant to the Aboriginal Affairs department.
  • Become familiar with the importance of branding and be able to provide support to the department using Vale\xe2\x80\x99s brand.
  • Assist with protection of the reputation of the company through various methods, including digital media, advertising, brand, events & exhibitions, site & community visits, photos & videos, and communications with employees.
  • Work regularly and comfortably with Microsoft Office Products, especially Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • Participate in the day-to-day execution of the Aboriginal Affairs\xe2\x80\x99 department goals.
  • Aid with the coordination and execution of programs and initiatives and community engagement activities in support of IBA implementation.
  • Represent Vale at local career fairs, community outreach training sessions, expos, training & recruitment roadshows, & Aboriginal conferences.
  • Work on a variety of special projects across the larger Corporate Affairs & Sustainability portfolio.
About YouMust be an Innu Nation Member or a Nunatsiavut Government BeneficiaryEducation:
  • Currently enrolled in a Social Science (Communications, Public Relations, Aboriginal/Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Geography, Political Science, Social Work or Psychology) or Commerce post-secondary program.
Experience:
  • Previous experience in an industrial setting would be an asset.
  • Previous experience in a related field would be an asset.
Skills:
  • Ability to effectively exchange information (oral and writing skills).
  • Attention to detail, along with editing and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in writing.
  • Demonstrated interest in supporting community initiatives.
  • Proficient in multi-tasking projects in an effective and organized manner.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong research, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
