.67 FTE \xe2\x80\x93 STEM Teacher Start Date: August 30, 2023 St. Thomas More Collegiate, a progressive Blessed Edmund Rice Christian Brother Catholic Independent high school in Burnaby, B.C., is seeking an engaging and experienced secondary school educator to join our ADST and mathematics departments. The successful candidate will be expected to be part of a collaborative teaching team within the larger school community whose goal is the positive growth and development of students. This position will encompass courses in robotics, computer programming, computer science, and potentially junior level mathematics. Ideally, the successful candidate will have senior level experience teaching Computer Science / Robotics, be flexible, technologically proficient, dynamic, collaborative, and an inspirational educator who is looking to become a part of a vibrant teaching and learning community. Preference will be given to applicants with previous secondary STEM teaching experience, five or more years of teaching experience, and a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree Education. STMC recognizes the value that technological literacy has towards ensuring student success in post-secondary education and beyond. To that end, we offer a number of programs to ensure that students have the opportunity to learn and develop the skills they need in this important area. Our STEM \xe2\x80\x93 ICT/Robotics department uses industry standard software and equipment to facilitate student learning in a variety of areas. Students can opt for courses offered in our highly innovative VEX Robotic Lab, our digital media facilities, our engineering and technology center, and our IT/Computer Science Lab. Specialized equipment for student learning experiences in various centers include 3D printers, a Laser Cutter, robotics hardware, electronic and materials development tools, and up-to-date computer systems for design and development. Potential candidates must hold, or be in the process of obtaining a certificate of qualification to teach in British Columbia or hold a BC Independent School Teacher\xe2\x80\x99s Certificate.   • Must hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate or BC Independent Teaching Certificate
  • Ideally hold an undergraduate degree in Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering
  • Bring a student-centered, inquiry-based and collaborative approach to the delivery of the B.C. curriculum of Applied Design, Skills, and Technology.
  • Knowledge of or desire to learn immediately, the RobotC programming language and robot construction with VEX EDR components.
  • Experience teaching Information Communication Technology or Computer Science
  • Excellent English written, communication and presentation skills
  • Be able to implement instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to build and foster educational growth
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes mutual respect and security to take personal educational risks
  • Foster supportive relationships with students and families
  • Implement a range of authentic learning assessments that provide timely feedback to students and a clear direction for parents
  • Be familiar with the BC Curriculum\xe2\x80\x99s use and implementation of proficiency scales
  • Maintain accurate, ongoing and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching, learning and reporting
  • Maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, students and parents
  • Be willing to contribute to the co-curricular and cultural life of the school and model the values espoused by Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education
