The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Power Engineer, 5th Class to perform maintenance and repair work on the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems and equipment in all Banff Centre buildings.

Key members of the Physical Facilities department, the Power Engineers oversee the lubrication and running maintenance of pumps, motors, fans, air filters, and other equipment related to heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, identifying any equipment in need of repair or replacement. The Power Engineers maintain a recorded history of maintenance for each piece of equipment at The Centre, preparing written reports of defects requiring attention, and sourcing and ordering replacement parts and materials as needed. The Power Engineers are also responsible for testing water and performing chemical treatment of all water systems outside of the main plant. Tasks and work locations across campus will vary daily, so the Power Engineers are expected to prioritize their daily work and work efficiently.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Assisting in some minor repair or adjustments and performing basic plumbing duties
  • Training new employees in daily rounds of mechanical rooms, chemical testing and treatment of boilers
  • Monitoring and adding chlorine and muriatic acid to pool systems
Qualification and Educational Requirements
  • 3-5 years\' experience in operation and/or maintenance of mechanical equipment
  • Holds a 5th Class Power Engineer ticket or vocational or apprenticeship training in a mechanical trade
  • Mechanical-aptitude and some knowledge of principles related to fans, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and to work on ladders, scaffolds, etc.
  • Valid Alberta Driver\'s License
Special Requirements
  • Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms & Benefits
  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, permanent, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
  • This position has an annual salary of $42,000 - $44,109 per year, depending on experience, working up to 37.5 hours per week.
  • The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
