We are currently seeking a 3rd Class Power Engineer to join our team at our Armstrong Division, located in the North Okanagan Region of British Columbia. Our facility includes a Sawmill, Planermill, Plywood Plant, auxiliary steam plant and a 20 Megawatt Biomass fired Co-Generation plant.

Reporting to the Cogen Superintendent, the Maintenance Relief Engineer is accountable for ensuring that site process systems and related equipment are functioning as efficiently as possible. This includes troubleshooting and maintenance of steam generating equipment, process piping, pumps, compressors, fire systems and other various process equipment located throughout the Cogeneration Plant, Plywood Plant, Planermill and Sawmill. When not functioning in a maintenance capacity, the Maintenance Relief Engineer is required to relieve the Cogen Assistant Shift Engineer in the operation of a power boiler, turbogenerator and all plant auxiliary equipment. This individual must be consistent with company objectives and standards by ensuring that safety and production targets are met.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3th Class Interprovincial Power Engineer Certificate of Competency.
  • Preference will be given to employees pursuing their 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate of Competency.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who are currently apprenticing or with experience in the relevant mechanical trades. Millwrighting, Pipefitting/Steamfitter or Sprinklerfitter certification.
  • 5 years or more of combined operating and maintenance experience.
  • Superior Troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent Organizational skills
REQUIRED DUTIES
  • Read and interpret piping drawings, specifications and fire codes to determine layout requirements
  • Install clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system and sprinkler and fire protection equipment
  • Select, measure, cut and thread pipe, install sprinkler heads and mount prepared pipe in supports
  • Join pipes and piping sections (above and underground)
  • Connect piping system to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment
  • Install valves, alarms and associated equipment
  • Service and repair of fire sprinkler systems (NFPA 13)
  • Remove, rebuild and install various types of water and condensate pumps
  • Operate and maintain hog fired boilers, turbine generator and associated plant auxiliaries
  • Perform plant clean-up and preventative maintenance activities
  • Operate the following heavy equipment \xe2\x80\x93D8 or D9 Dozer, Front End Loader, Fork Lift, Skid Steer, AWP and Telehandler
  • Conduct plant rounds and equipment inspections
  • Operate Plant equipment and the Water Treatment Plant as directed by the Shift Engineer
  • Maintain operating logs adhering to applicable regulations
  • Assist Operations and Maintenance crews where required
  • Conduct inspections, analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions and take corrective action, as required; initiate maintenance requests
  • Actively participate in preventative and corrective maintenance programs
