3D ARTIST - ENVIRONMENTSOverview
Secret Location is seeking a 3D Artist to join the creative team for a new location-based experiential project. Utilizing projection mapping and interaction tracking, the project will push creative and technical boundaries to deliver a unique audience experience. We are seeking an artist who is comfortable working in new formats, can join in troubleshooting problems in a team setting, take ownership of their tasks and bring something from concept to completion.Responsibilities
Create and implement 3D environment artwork for the immersive experience, including:

  • Model, surface, and texture props and environments
  • Integrate assets into Unreal Engine projects
  • Optimize assets in-engine to improve performance of the experience
  • Commit and maintain work on a source control and asset management server
  • Define and maintain a consistent and high-quality visual style, in line with art direction
  • Animation and Sequencer setup for in-engine animation of props and environmental assets
  • Collaborate closely with art director, technical lead, and developers
  • Actively participate in team standups, status meetings and review presentations
  • Incorporate feedback from review sessions with project leads
  • Work according to project tasks and timelines assigned by the project manager
  • Collaborate with creative and technical leads to maintain an art pipeline that supports and pushes the visual quality of the project
  • Help identify bottlenecks in the project art pipeline and work to improve them
Experience Required
  • Intermediate level: 2-3 years' experience as a 3D artist
  • Portfolio and/or demo reel showcasing 3D environment artwork experience
  • Strong knowledge of one or more major 3D packages, such as: Max, Maya, Blender, ZBrush and/or MudBox
  • Experience creating assets in real-time engines (Unity, Unreal)
  • Strong UV, texturing, and digital painting skills
  • Some experience with graph-based material and texture creation, such as: Substance Designer, Unreal Material Editor
  • Broad knowledge across 3D art disciplines including modeling, lighting and surfacing
  • Broad understanding of 3D graphics principles and techniques
  • Understanding of art fundamentals including color theory, drawing and painting
Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Experience with VR, game or experiential 3D production pipelines
  • Experience with creating immersive, interactive, projection mapping or AR-based content
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine's animation and Sequencer tools
  • Familiarity with physically based rendering (PBR) workflow and integration
  • Experience working with particle systems
  • Knowledge of both hard surface and organic modelling workflows
  • Experience creating optimized UV Layouts
  • Knowledge of the technical constraints relating to real time game or experience development
  • Experience with use of Github and Sourcetree (or similar) for build management and version control
Tools: Software
  • Unreal Engine v4.27+
  • 3D artwork packages, such as: Max, Maya, Blender, ZBrush and/or MudBox
  • Github, Sourcetree
  • Google Workspace, Slack and project management software, such as: Asana, Jira/Confluence or Notion
Tools: Equipment
  • Computer (GTX 10-series GPU or better, Windows 10+)
  • Webcam and headphones, for video calls
Duration / Hours
  • 3-month contract with possibility to extend
  • 40 hours / week
