Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and reliable 2nd Year HVAC-R Apprentice Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This role is ideal for a registered apprentice technician, who has had achieved their second year HVAC-R training level, enrolled in or working towards their Class B Gas certification and is looking to gain hands-on experience while working toward their Red Seal certification under the supervision of licensed journeypersons and certified gas fitters.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC-R equipment including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and refrigeration units.
Support preventive maintenance and cleaning tasks on residential and commercial HVAC-R systems.
Help with installations and retrofits of HVAC equipment, including ductwork, piping, and electrical components.
Training & Safety
Learn and apply proper diagnostic and repair techniques under the supervision of a certified technician.
Follow all safety procedures in accordance with WorkSafeBC and company policies.
Attend scheduled apprentice training (ITA or trade school) and maintain required documentation.
Worksite & Team Contribution
Maintain clean and organized work areas, including vehicles and job sites.
Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
Interact with clients professionally and respectfully while on-site.
Qualifications
Registered as an HVAC-R Apprentice with the Industry Training Authority (ITA) of BC.
Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
Physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment and work in various environments (rooftops, crawl spaces, outdoors).
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Strong work ethic, punctuality, and team spirit.
Assets
(Preferred but Not Required)
Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certification.
First Aid, WHMIS, Fall Protection or other safety tickets.
Basic experience with hand and power tools.
Completion of Level 1 HVAC or Refrigeration training at a trade school.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Wage: $20 - $35/hour depending on experience and level of apprenticeship.
Overtime pay according to BC Employment Standards.
Company vehicle (or ride with journeyperson), and uniforms provided.
Health and dental benefits package (after probationary period).
Career progression toward Red Seal Certification and advanced licensing (e.g., Gas B or A).
