We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the 2nd Class Power Engineer - Relief Chief Power Engineer position at our Chemical Manufacturing Plant located in Thorold, Ontario.
Essential Job Duties:
Ensures that work assigned to Power Engineers is complete.
Coordinates work assignments and distribute/delegate tasks.
Covers Chief Engineer and Shift Engineers for vacations, illness, training or other absences as required.
Orders chemicals, enters MWO's, and PR's
Writes MOC's as needed for changes
Schedule department vacation time and arrange for shift coverage
Manage department overtime based on seniority
On call for department emergencies
Enters data for daily reports and issues the report to plant
Assists in maintenance planning and project work
Acts as the department Liaison for Delta V and Success Factors
Prepares and writes up new SOP's and re-writes old SOP's
Assists with training new employees
Trouble shoots operational problems
Procures supplies for department
Operate and coordinate maintenance of all equipment to maintain necessary supply of utilities to plant
Performs the responsibilities of the 2nd and/or 3rd Class Power Engineers when operating in those roles as relief or any other capacity.
Performs routine maintenance checks. When problems do arise with equipment, diagnoses problem, determines possible solution(s).
Solves personally if possible (for minor repairs). Arranges for maintenance to repair it and advises and help maintenance if possible.
Provides maintenance with "Permission to Start Work" and/or any other QPA permits as necessary, including excavations
Maintains daily log sheets, operational data and charts for purposes of record keeping as legislated by the Department of Labour
Ensures that all work performed is done in accordance with plant Safety policies and procedures and Environmental standards, i.e. ensure that exhaust furnace gas being dispersed to the atmosphere meets M.O.E.C.C. standard
Ensures that general housekeeping and minor maintenance is performed within the department.
Qualifications:
Education: Must possess a valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer's License, knowledge of Operating Engineers Act, Boilers, Pressure Vessels and fuels. Knowledge of all applicable TSSA regulations. Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or related field of study or equivalent knowledge and experience. Must be a QPA. Strong knowledge of power generation / transmission technology, water and waste water treatment including processes, procedures and related systems in a plant environment. Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. Knowledge of computers and ability to operate computer systems and software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power-point, Outlook, and to conduct research using the internet. SAP knowledge / experience would be an asset. High level of problem solving/analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills. Ability to work independently and within a team is required.
Experience: Related Utilities management experience in plant operations with a focus on power technology, systems, processes and project management. Must have related experience and be familiar with plant operations, systems, processes, procedures and experience with TSSA regulations on several levels. Proven experience with diagnostic, analytical and problem solving to resolve issues effectively. Previous Utilities related experience including planning, coordinating, organizing work or projects. Related experience in preparing reports and maintaining accurate records. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to deal with tact, diplomacy and courtesy. In addition, must have previous experience with Health and Safety practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment, ideally a chemical processing facility.
Accountability: To ensure that all utilities, i.e. steam, air, water, fire and waste systems are supplied to plant for both consumption and uninterrupted production. Conduct daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. Use personal accountability to assist with carrying out duties, responsibilities and authority as defined in HSE programs, practices and procedures. Understand HSE policies and programs. Work safely, with respect to health and environmental requirements.
