McElhanney Women in Engineering Scholarship
In recognition of the contributions of people who identify as women at McElhanney, this scholarship is designed to inspire and celebrate future women leaders in Engineering, and Engineering technology while upholding our unwavering commitment to creating opportunities where women have equal opportunity to grow their careers. The ideal candidate identifies as a woman, and has demonstrated strong leadership within their community and is currently enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or graduate program and has a passion for a career in an Engineering or Engineering technology discipline that applies to McElhanney.
Selected recipient who is completing an education program (see applicable programs below) is awarded up to $5,000 to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies, and living expenses (on-campus accommodations) as well as providing a direct internship opportunity.
McElhanney Women in Engineering Scholarship will be open for applications from September 15th to November 2nd, 2025.
In addition to the scholarship, candidates are encouraged to apply for internship or new graduate opportunities at McElhanney during our regular recruitment cycles (winter, summer, and fall). These opportunities are promoted through our campus communications at most post-secondary institutions and are also posted on McElhanney's website.
One recipient will be selected for this scholarship award, and we strongly encourage applications from students of all backgrounds, including but not limited to Indigenous Peoples, women, racialized groups, persons with disabilities, members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and other equity-deserving groups.

Hands-on career training will be made available through full-time or intern opportunities which are reserved for individuals who have an interest in one or more of the following career paths. In your application, please select your career path of interest (if you have more than one career path of interest, please rank them from most interested to least):

  • Geomatics Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering

Step 2: Confirm Your Eligibility
To qualify for this scholarship, please ensure you meet the following criteria:
  • You have a passion for advancing and promoting women and strive for equity in your respective community.
  • You have displayed a high level of resilience, determination, and creativity in overcoming any challenges.
  • You are enrolled in a diploma or degree program and have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary education at an accredited Canadian institution that is in one of the mentioned career paths.
  • Seeking an internship opportunity while completing an education program in Engineering disciplines (see applicable programs above).
Step 3: Application Instructions
A complete application must be submitted on or before the application deadline and will include the following documents to receive consideration. * An updated resume that summarizes your experience.
  • A personal statement of 1-2 pages that addresses the following questions:
  • How have you been involved in promoting women and advanced equity on your campus and your community, and what impact have you had in this area?
  • What challenges have you faced as a woman pursuing a career in engineering, and how did you overcome these challenges that impacted your academic and personal experiences?
  • Why should you be selected as the recipient of this scholarship?
  • How would this scholarship support your career plans?
When answering these questions, you may wish to: consider how your studies or future work in Engineering will contribute to the advancement of women in the industry; and/or, provide us with any other information you feel we should know about you that elevates your qualities as a candidate.
The Perks
As the recipient of the McElhanney's Women In Engineering Scholarship, you will receive:
  • Tuition Support: This scholarship offers up to $5,000 to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies, and living expenses (on-campus accommodations).
  • Mentorship Opportunity: Be paired up with an industry professional that will support you in achieving your professional goals. Together, you will discuss training, coaching or career aspirations of interest to you.
  • Internship Opportunity: The selected recipient will be awarded a paid internship opportunity that aligns with their career plans and McElhanney's hiring needs at the time.
