This position is a blend of teaching French subjects for students from Grades 7-12 and Foods/ Culinary Arts from Grades 7-12. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent degree;
  • Experience teaching French language;
  • Experience teaching or working with Foods;
  • Experience developing and implementing the requirements of an Individualized Education Plan, Student Learning Plans and Behavior Support Plan and Safety Plans;
  • Experience in self- regulation and restorative practices would be considered an asset;
  • Experience working in a Yukon First Nations setting and in teaching First Nations students would be an asset.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:
  • Capable of teaching a differentiated group of learners in an inclusive or pull out program as required;
  • Demonstrated ability to modify and adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning abilities and styles and to meet the needs of students with Individual Education Plans;
  • A philosophy of inclusive education; excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills to work closely with students, staff, parents, consultants, related agencies, and the greater community in meeting the social, emotional and academic needs of all students;
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate experiential learning and cultural practices into curriculum;
  • Familiarity with Tr\'ond\xc3\xabk Hw\xc3\xabch\'in culture and in teaching First Nations students is desirable;
  • A knowledge of & sensitivity to the culture & aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population is required;
  • An awareness of the unique challenges of northern education;
  • A commitment to live, work and participate as a member of a small, isolated, rural community.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.
  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check.
  • Relocation may be available.
