Job Description

Under the direction of SSS Occupational Therapists, this Educational Assistant position provides blocks of support in the domain of gross motor, fine motor, printing and written output development to Whitehorse students, both individually and in groups, in various schools. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE : Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
• Experience working with youth;
• Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset.
• Recent experience as a therapy assistant or education assistant supporting the implementation of intervention programs designed to improve students\xe2\x80\x99 skills would be an asset.
• A diploma and/or recent coursework in OT Assistant or PT Assistant would be an asset. DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;
• Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;
• Ability to work as a member of a team;
• Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
• Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments; CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Security Clearance (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to starting work;
• Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months;
• Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the 2023/24 school year. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• Ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Ability to effectively plan, manage time, and efficiently work towards specific learning outcomes for students.
