Job Summary:

The Medical Physics group plays a unique and important role in supporting the cancer control mandate of CancerCare Manitoba. We work with other departments within CancerCare Manitoba as well as external stakeholders such as the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, the Brandon Regional Health Authority, and the University of Manitoba to support various treatment and diagnostic programs.

A vacancy exists for a Radiation Oncology Physicist at the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre located in Brandon, Manitoba, approximately two hours drive west of Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a solo physicist in Brandon, working together with a physics associate and an electronic technologist, the successful candidate will be the "go to" for the radiation oncologists and therapists, affording the opportunity to gain a broad range of clinical experiences. A new linac install is planned along with expanded treatment options, which will provide the candidate with the chance for innovation and leadership. To assist with these efforts, the satellite facility is highly coordinated and integrated with the main facility in Winnipeg.

We support a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics graduate program offered through the University of Manitoba, and a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics clinical residency program through CancerCare Manitoba. Depending on expertise, the candidate will have opportunities to contribute to this program through teaching and/or graduate student supervision and/or mentoring of medical physics clinical residents. This position reports to Section Head of the Radiation Oncology Physics Group at CancerCare Manitoba.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and technical support for the radiation oncology program
  • Designated Radiation Safety Officer for the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre
  • Acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment, routine quality assurance
  • Implementation of new clinical programs in consultation with the other members of the Radiation Oncology Program
  • Work outside of standard daytime working hours (e.g., evenings or weekends) may be required at times
  • Contribute to research and teaching
Qualifications:

We invite applications and nominations from interested individuals meeting the following qualifications:
  • A post-graduate degree in radiotherapy physics (i.e., M.Sc. or Ph.D., Ph.D. is an asset).
  • A minimum of two years of clinical training experience in radiation oncology physics beyond the post-graduate degree. Additional clinical work experience beyond two years is an asset.
  • MCCPM certification or eligibility to apply for certification.
  • Experience with the following equipment/procedures: linacs (with mounted kV imaging systems), CT-simulators, treatment planning systems, MRI, and PET/CT.
  • Radiation protection experience is an asset.
  • We are actively growing our research program, therefore a strong research track record and interest in pursuing research in a collaborative environment is an asset.
  • Excellent problem solving, organization and interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize competing responsibilities.
Salary: according to MAHCP Collective Agreement
