Role Overview



Eva's Initiatives for Homeless Youth provides safe shelter, supportive services, and long-term solutions to youth homelessness. We believe all young people deserve safe, affordable housing, great support, and access to resources to reach their full potential.

This position reports to the Program Manager, Housing and Life Skills, and will operate between Eva's sites. The position works in a shelter environment with its associated stresses and with youth who may at-times be in crisis and may demonstrate related behaviours.

The Housing Support Worker position is responsible for development and delivery of programs that support youth residents in transitioning to independent living. This position also manages an active caseload of clients (unique individuals or households served at any one time), using the agency's Electronic Client Management System (Apricot) to document all interactions, outcomes, and service plans.

The position works within shelter/transitional housing environment with youth who may at-times be in crisis and may demonstrate related behaviours. The Housing Support Worker may be required to work on weekends and evenings as needed.

This role will involve serving priority populations including Indigenous Peoples of Canada, 2SLGBTQ+ youth, Black Torontonians, Torontonians and Canadians of African descent, refugees, and youth ages 16-24. This position is unionized and will be required to work 40 hours per week. This position requires rotation across Eva's sites.

Responsibilities



Housing Support and Transitional Planning



Support youth in identifying, securing, and transitioning into appropriate housing options (market-rent, subsidized, transitional, or community-based) Assist youth with preparing for viewings, understanding tenancy expectations, and communicating with landlords. Guide youth through move-in and move-out processes and ensure they are prepared for independent living. Provide post-move follow-up to promote housing stability and address emerging needs.

Life Skills and Program Delivery



Develop and facilitate life-skills programming focused on independent living, such as budgeting, income stabilization, household management, and tenancy education. Lead group workshops and one-on-one sessions covering rental readiness, tenancy rights and responsibilities, and community integration. Create learning materials, resources, and tools that support youth in building skills required for successful independent living. Support shelter operations by responding to youth needs, contributing to a safe and stable environment, and assisting in crisis response when required.

Administrative Support and Documentation



Assist youth with completing government applications, rental paperwork, identification forms, and other required documentation. Maintain accurate and confidential case notes, service records, and program statistics in accordance with organizational policies and service delivery mandate. Track participant progress and outcomes to support program evaluation and continuous improvement. Update Apricot DBMS and case notes on a regular basis.

Collaboration and Community Engagement



Work closely with internal teams, shelter staff, and external partners to coordinate holistic supports for youth. Build relationships with landlords, housing providers, and community agencies to expand housing options. Provide appropriate referrals to community resources such as employment services, mental health supports, and financial assistance programs.

Qualifications



Bachelors Degree or College Diploma in a related field (Social Work, Child and Youth Work, Social Services) or relevant mix of education and experience Minimum 2 years work experience working with vulnerable youth including those with mental health challenges, preferably in a residential setting; Experience in case management Experience in facilitating workshops and coordinating program delivery Knowledge and awareness of issues related to youth homelessness and the supports and resources youth need to transition successfully to independent living Extensive knowledge of community resources available Demonstrated knowledge of how to use anti-oppressive frameworks to develop rapport with "at risk youth" from various ethno-cultural groups Excellent organizational, and time management skills Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; Experience with administration, documentation, and computer skills including MS Office, Outlook, Access etc. Demonstrated understanding of the Residential Tenancies Class "G" valid driver's license with clean abstract
