The Opportunity

The Fund Investment team identifies and reviews private equity fund managers and works with our global client base to build and manage private markets portfolios across Private Equity, Private Credit, and Private Real Assets.

Fund Investment team members conduct due diligence, screen new investment opportunities, contribute to fund research reports, prepare client deliverables and work on special projects to support client servicing. This role will be dually focused on investment underwriting and client/portfolio management.

As a member of a fast-growing Canadian office, the analyst will be an important part of our cross-functional business. Team members are exposed to the world\xe2\x80\x99s best private equity managers and work alongside our leading institutional investors on a global scale.

First year Fund Investment Analysts will begin to develop the skills needed to assess private market fund investment opportunities and assist in client management. They will receive exposure to private markets asset managers (General Partners) by analyzing their private placement materials, participating in in-house due diligence meetings and site visits to their offices. They will also work directly with Portfolio Strategists/Relationship Managers on various prospect and client inquiries, pipeline calls, presentations, and portfolio development tasks.

In addition to working on special projects and other company initiatives, first year Fund Investment Analysts:

  • Perform the initial review and formulate the initial recommendation of private equity fund opportunities on a global basis;
  • Meet fund managers and perform in depth due diligence to arrive at a final recommendation on the fund investment opportunity;
  • Monitor portfolios and generate written reports on Hamilton Lane\xe2\x80\x99s current fund investments through update meetings, quarterly calls, and annual meetings;
  • Maintain a working knowledge of assigned client portfolios and the investments within these portfolios;
  • Assist in client portfolio development including running pacing models, assisting with allocation decisions, preparing strategic plans, and reviewing quarterly reports;
  • Respond to ad hoc prospect and client questions and special request
Second year Fund Investment Analysts will continue to build on the skills attained in their first year.

As investment acumen develops, they will assume greater ownership of initial recommendations and participate in deal team discussions. They will oversee and review the training of first year analysts and over time will review the output of more junior analysts. They will also start to make introductions to broader pieces of the firm.

In the third year, Fund Investment Analysts will have developed their competencies, professionalism, and investment acumen to the point where they can take on a more senior role on deal teams. They typically produce less individual work product and are expected to contribute at a higher-level providing insight into investment recommendations. In addition, they will contribute to the hiring, training, and mentoring of junior analysts.

Strong-performing analysts are considered for longer-term careers at Hamilton Lane, with potential for Associate promotions during or after their third year.
