Location: Pinawa, Manitoba (Whiteshell)The Instrument Technician Student will be shadowing our Instrument Technician and will cover all regular job duties from working on security systems to calibrating Radiation Protection (RP) instruments.If you are interested, we invite you to submit a resume, cover letter, and copy of an up-to-date transcript by the posting close date of May 27, 2024, to ensure consideration for student employment.   • Reading and interpreting drawings and code specifications.
  • Keeping up to date with new developments in technology.
  • Working from drawings and sketches as required with the ability to provide material take-offs and labour estimates.
  • Identifying and reporting any real or potential safety hazards; wearing all safety equipment related to your position as well as participating in all safety-training offered through the facility.
  • Adhering to Workplace Safety and health procedures, WHIMIS program; keeping current with practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:Someone who has the ability to:
  • Use teamwork skills when working on large projects with co-workers.
  • Work proficiently in a variety of assigned tasks.
  • Read blueprints and computer-aided drafting.
  • Possess the physical stamina to stand for long periods of time, work in awkward or cramped confined locations.
  • Use eye-hand coordination and dexterity and their ability to plan and think sequentially as well as three-dimensionally.
  • Perform precision work.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools; and ability to determine the most appropriate means of proceeding with the work.
  • Wear and work in protective clothing including respirators.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic/electrical, pneumatic and microprocessor-based systems and test equipment.
  • Determine how equipment operates by looking at a diagram or blueprint.
  • Understand detailed information.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with ones work.
  • Adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative.
  • Work extend hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
Experience
  • Experience with industrial environments and working with trades is an asset.
  • Knowledge of industrial health and safety.
  • Blueprint reading and computer-aided drafting.
  • Electrical and electronics knowledge.
  • Shop and safe work practices.
  • Heating and ventilation.
  • Analytical instrumentation and analog, digital, and radio frequency (R.F.) controllers.
  • Interlocks, instrument measurements and application.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Education
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program relating to Instrument Technician (Electrical).
  • Formal training and demonstrated proficiency in the following areas of study:
  • Mathematics, Chemistry and Science
Working Conditions:
  • Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
  • Ability to wear and work in a protective clothing and use equipment as required.
  • Ability to wear and work in a respirator and other protective equipment.
  • Work environments such as construction/decommissioning sites, contamination zones, and potentially confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures ranging from +30\xc2\xb0C to -40\xc2\xb0C.
Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of three (3) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.
