The purpose of this role is to inspect the design, construction or repair, and use of routine and complex buildings or structures within tourism accommodations to ensure compliance with adopted fire and safety codes and equivalent standards in accordance with the Fire Prevention Act and relevant regulations. This role will also promote fire prevention through fire investigations and other related activities through the delivery of fire safety education mediums.


Duties will include but are not limited to:




Conducts detailed fire inspections that are required by Provincial regulatory bodies to enhance public safety; Ensures building and structures comply with fire codes; Identifies potential hazards and notifies operators of required compliance; Enforces regulations, and issues warnings and fire code violations; Ensures all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed during inspections; Liaises with the Fire Marshal's office on a regular basis to ensure the smooth flow of information; Ensures all file-related information including inspection reports and directions are maintained; Prepares reports; Works with law enforcement agencies as required, and gives evidence before the Provincial Court, Supreme Court or at a Corner's inquest as required in accordance with the Fire Prevention Act and other relevant legislation; Assists with the administration of programs and services of the Fire Marshal's Office; Issues permit; Liaises with fire services throughout the province; Responds to public inquiries; Develops education materials and implements training on the Fire Prevention Act and associated regulations; Assists in developing website content related to fire prevention and safety; Prepares and presents information sessions to the general public regarding fire safety and fire prevention; and Other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications:




Completion of a Diploma in a related field; Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered; Certified in International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), Pro Board or PEI Firefighters Association (PEIFFA) Fire School courses; Completion of the qualifications for National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards; Extensive experience as a Firefighter; Considerable experience administering NFPA Codes and Standards; Considerable experience administering the National Building Code of Canada; Current and active member of the Island Fire Service; NFPA 1001 - Level 1 & 2, Firefighter Certification (or will obtain it within the 12 months after hire); NFPA 1031 - Level 1 Fire Inspector (or will obtain it within 12 months after hire); Emergency Management Training (ICS 100 & 200); Knowledge of the Provincial Legislation and Regulations (Emergencies Measures Act, Fire Prevention Act); Knowledge of the National Fire Prevention Association Codes and Standards; Knowledge of the National Building Code and Fire Code of Canada;
