The purpose of the Liquor Store Clerk position is to provide reception, clerical, merchandising, consultative, and sales transaction fulfilment services in a government-run liquor retail store in a manner which complies with all provincial regulations and internal corporate policies.


Duties will include but are not limited to:




Continuously present a positive image that complies with all employer dress code requirements. Deal courteously and tactfully with the public and assist customers in a helpful and friendly manner with purchases and/or inquiries. Maintain positive working relationship with co-workers to ensure a positive team environment. Provide excellent customer service: being patient; attentive; demonstrating excellent product knowledge; using clear communication skills with positive language; having an ability to read customers and being able to react to new or unique customer scenarios; using good time management; having a calming presence, using empathy; and being goal oriented with a willingness to learn. Balance cash float prior to the start of shift; Sign onto computerized point-of-sale terminal; Greet and consult with customers as per employer customer service policies. Process and fulfill sales transactions in an accurate and timely fashion by: Scanning or manually keying Universal Product Code (UPC) numbers of products being purchased by customer. Receiving cash or credit/debit card as payment; Processing card payments, making change, and providing receipts if required; Bagging items in regular and/or applicable parcel packing where required and preparing as part of aggregate e-commerce shipment where required. Unload liquor orders and reconcile product received with bills of lading. Ensure all product is stored in an organized, safe, and quality-preserving fashion while ensuring easy accessibility for continuous merchandising. Monitor retail and storage areas to ensure compliance with regulatory framework that governs the operation of a liquor retail store. Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:




Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Considerable, recent experience in retail sales (e.g. providing customer service, using a computerize Point-of-Sale terminal, merchandising, etc.). Recent experience supervising, preferably in a retail environment (e.g. balancing cashier tills & daily business receipts, preparing bank deposits, entering data into financial management system, troubleshooting minor computer problems, opening/closing facility, etc.). Must be physically capable of lifting packaged merchandise weighing up to 20KG for continuous periods of time. Knowledge of legislative and regulatory framework that governs the operation of a liquor retail store. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to learn and adapt to new procedures quickly and easily. Must have very good time management and organizational skills. A good previous work and attendance record. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of an acceptable Criminal Records Check.

Other Qualifications:




Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed an employer recognized liquor training program. Candidates are required to pass the Liquor Knowledge test Preference will be given to candidates with liquor retail sales experience. Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
