Who were looking for




We are seeking a skilled Assistant Manager to join our Hamilton Health Sciences Volunteer Association Food Services team on a full time basis (40 hours per week) at Nora's Cafe located in the Juravinski Hospital. The schedule for this position is primarily Monday to Friday, 10:30 am - 6:30 pm with the ability to participate in the management on-call schedule and some flexibility is required to suit operational needs.


We are looking for a positive, energetic leader who is passionate about providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced hospital cafe environment with strong customer service skills.

What you'll do



Communicates with and directs staff to ensure operations are running effectively and business targets are being met. Deals with customers in a positive and professional manner and quickly and efficiently address issues. Ensures that the retail entities are clean and well organized with products displayed attractively at all times. Ensures that the cash and merchandise within each entity is secure at all times. Prepares daily cash deposits and reports any discrepancies to the Manager, Food Services immediately. Assists the Manager, Food Service in providing supervision and direction to food service staff. Monitors the POS machines daily, deals with POS issues and other equipment issues. Is able to operate all food service equipment appropriately and ensures its safe operation by other staff members. Enforces portion control and minimizes waste to effectively maintain cost of goods. Ensures that Health Department regulations are met or exceeded at all times. Monitors food par levels and food quality to ensure standards are met and provides regular feedback to the Food Service Manager and Chef Manager. Ensures that all catering orders are delivered on time and meet or exceed customer's expectation. Communicates all relevant information regarding the cafeteria to the Manager, Food Services and Senior Manager, Retail Operations - i.e. disciplinary issues, accidents or injury, customer complaints and requests. Organizes staff duties and breaks as necessary to ensure proper coverage and customer service. Covers front line staff shifts, catering and production as required to maintain appropriate service levels. Assists with the scheduling of staff and the training of new food service staff. Supervises, coaches, supports and guides the staff on a daily basis, and handles staff disciplinary issues with assistance, input and direction from the Manager, Food Services.

What you bring



3-5 years of supervisory experience working in a food service environment. Proven ability to provide excellent customer service. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively utilize various computer applications including Outlook, Excel and Word. Able to prioritize tasks, organize work and take initiative. Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills. Team oriented with good leadership skills and able to supervise reports effectively. Proven ability to prepare and cook food. Food Handler's Certification or willing to take the course paid by the VA.

Conditions of employment



Health Clearance from Employee Health through Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), which includes the requirement to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, inclusive of any booster shots, unless a Hamilton Health Sciences exemption is provided.
