JVH Humphries and Jewett Elementary are looking for a flexible, dynamic, high performing classroom teacher to join our K-12 teaching team.




The position will be for supervision of the classroom component of the JVH Outdoor Adventures Exploratory on Tuesday afternoon, Elementary prep coverage on Wednesday and Thursday (also at JV Humphries), and once a month prep coverage at Jewett Elementary on Fridays.


School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) is located in the southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada and serves the Lower Kootenay Band and the communities of Kaslo, Meadow Creek, Crawford Bay, Creston, Wynndel, Yahk, Nelson, Salmo, South Slocan, Winlaw, Slocan, and the surrounding rural areas. The annual pay range for a full time teacher is $63,367 - $111,488, with placement on the range based on experience and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

The awarded applicant will have recent demonstrated successful experience working with K-12 learners in a classroom teaching role. They will have strong classroom management skills, be an excellent communicator and have had recent trauma informed schools training.









The successful applicant will be innovative, creative, and demonstrate understanding of the Redesigned BC Curriculum and diverse learning needs. They will continually strive to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment. A solid understanding of current assessment practices, and the redesigned K-12 Reporting Policy, would be an asset.

Teachers applying for this position must possess the following attributes:

Interest in working closely with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and the community


Excellent classroom management and relationship building skills


Knowledge and recent successful experience with literacy and numeracy programs in multiage classrooms


Knowledge of current instructional practices and redesigned curriculum including inclusion models of support and differentiated teaching strategies


Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills


Proficiency and current use of technologies to enhance and personalize learning (GSuite)


Passion for working in rural schools and outdoor focused learning


Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to be flexible
