Job Description


Applications are invited for a temporary 1.0 FTE Wellness Promoter at Montmartre and Vibank Schools commencing as soon as possible and ending June 28, 2024.

Job Purpose: The Wellness Promoter is responsible for delivering mental health and addictions programming in select schools to support healthy children and youth. This position works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to enhance capacity to meet the objectives by developing and delivering developmentally appropriate programming to children, youth and families within school settings. The Wellness Promoter will provide classroom instruction for Mental Health and Wellness courses within the high schools as well as promote health and wellness outcomes at all grade levels.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent working knowledge of client centered mental health and addictions interventions, practice methods and professional skills.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a wide range of client groups.
  • Comfort with delivering both elementary and high school course content.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver culturally responsive services to a diverse group of clients.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills utilizing strengths-based practices and solution focused interactions.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills, both verbally in in written form.
  • Ability to engage community resources, treatment centres, social services networks, non-profit organizations and community businesses.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop, plan and promote programs, activities and events for students as part of a mental health action plan.
  • Deliver programming that responds to the identified needs of students and schools.
  • Work with school-team professionals to facilitate referrals to addictions treatment programs for youth.
  • Assist in creating, delivering and analyzing survey and other assessment data and accountability reports.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, school staff, school community councils, First Nations and outside agencies to strengthen family-school-community partnerships related to mental health and addictions.
  • Build the capacity of teachers and administrators using a variety of proactive, innovative and effective professional development delivery techniques, including collegial mentoring and coaching, professional reference material and presenting at professional learning event at the school and system levels.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Education Degree
  • Valid Saskatchewan Professional A teacher certificate
  • Preference for a background in physical and mental health, wellness, kinesiology
Working Conditions:
  • Commencing as soon as possible and ending June 28, 2024.
  • Employment conditions as per STF agreement.
  • Salary is based on educational qualifications.
  • Travel between schools and community organizations is required using a private vehicle with employer-paid mileage.
